LED production is a complex process that does not ensure 100% consistency between LEDs. LED Binning is the sorting process based on the output of light intensity and color, measuring consistency in a range between 2 and 7 steps.

Steps are measured in relation to a MacAdam ellipse, a Standard Deviation Color Matching (SDCM) protocol describing human visibility of different sources, by how far they deviate from a reference center color. The human eye cannot detect chromatic variation between any two points inside a given ellipse.

To guarantee lighting uniformity, Lorbits supplies all products with 3-step binning LEDs, the tightest binning possible, and on the black body curve. Any range beyond 3-steps can compromise the success of a project installation.
